Kimi Raikkonen admitted that wasn't completely happy with a second place finish in the Hungarian Grand Prix, with victory for Lewis Hamilton meaning the Finn was unable to take points out of all three of his main rivals.

The Finn went into the weekend in fourth place in the championship standings having been somewhat overshadowed in his first season in Ferrari colours by McLaren pairing Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso, and his own team-mate Felipe Massa.

With two of those three in the wars after qualifying, Alonso after a penalty dropped him to sixth and Massa down in 14th after a refuelling issue in qualifying meant he was unable to make it past the second knockout stage of qualifying.

Having dispatched with the BMW of Nick Heidfeld on the run to the first corner, Raikkonen would settle into an uneventful second place - chasing Hamilton to the flag but admitting there was no chance of overtaking his young rival.

"My main aim today was to make up points on my three closest rivals for the title," he said. "I didn't manage it and so I cannot be completely happy. We knew we could count on a very good car in terms of race pace and so it was, as was clear to see on the few occasions when I could drive with a clear track ahead of me, but it was not enough to win. When you find yourself very close to a car with similar speed, unless it makes a mistake, it is very difficult to overtake, especially on a track like this one.

"I fought to the very end to try and win but I never had a real chance to pass Hamilton. We came in together for our first pit stop and at that point, the choice of fuel levels determined the final outcome. But bit by bit as the track rubbered in and got more grip, my performance improved. Clearly, on some tracks, we suffer a lot in qualifying and we have to understand why. I think that in the coming races the situation should definitely be better, starting in Istanbul."

Raikkonen now lies third in the standings having jumped ahead of Massa, but is some 20 points behind championship leader Hamilton.
