Michael Schumacher finally appears poised to be come a team principal - although the role will come at the opposite end of the spectrum to his current role in Formula One.

While some degree of mystery continues to surround the German's position as 'special assistant' at Ferrari - what he does isn't exactly clear and Schumacher himself is alleged to have expressed some dissatisfaction with the role - there will be no confusion over his new job at the head of the KSM kart team.

Always one to jump at the chance to fuel his love of karting, the seven-time world champion has bought into the team, which was formed by Peter Kaiser, and will share responsibility for its future with his long-time friend and third owner Thomas Muchow, KSM being the three partners' surname initials.

The team will be based near to Schumacher's home town of Kerpen, where the German and brother Ralf learned to race on the family-owned - and now international standard - kart facility, and will aim to boost German talent onto the world scene.
