Ron Dennis has praised his McLaren team for their efforts in increasingly difficult circumstances during the Italian Grand Prix after helping Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton to their first 1-2 result since Monaco at Monza.

With the spying scandal having returned to the headlines over the weekend and the return to the World Motorsport Council looming, McLaren have been under the spotlight again over the last few days.

Nonetheless, it did not stop the team from utterly dominating proceedings over the weekend, claiming the front row in qualifying and then romping away to a comfortable 1-2 result in the race

It was enough to prompt an emotional Dennis to praise the team for maintaining their focus and helping the team to a points haul that could prove crucial by the end of the season.

"We always want to win and to have McLaren's first one-two at Monza today is really special. The entire team has done a fantastic job both on and off track in difficult circumstances, and our dominance this weekend is a just reward for all their efforts.

"Fernando and Lewis put in excellent performances and controlled the race from the front. Lewis, overtaking manoeuvre to reclaim second place showed his determination. We now focus on the week ahead and the race at Spa next weekend."
