As expected, Scuderia Toro Rosso outcast Scott Speed appears set to resurface on the American stock car scene, having been confirmed for an ARCA series debut with Team Red Bull and Eddie Sharp Racing.

Speed will drive the #21 Red Bull Toyota in the ARCA RE/MAX Series at Talladega on 5 October, continuing a relationship with the Austrian drinks brand that dates back to 2002, when he won the Red Bull Driver Search programme aimed at putting an American into Formula One.

Although he climbed through the ranks to make it into the top flight with Toro Rosso in 2006, a falling out with the team's European management saw Speed part company with the team during the summer break. His ties with Red Bull, however, soon had the American being linked with the brand's NASCAR team - which currently runs Brian Vickers and another former open-wheel prot?g? AJ Allmendinger.

With that goal now firmly on the horizon, Red Bull tapped arguably the best ARCA team in the field to accelerate Speed's stock car learning curve. Eddie Sharp Racing will pair the rookie with a well-established team and high-calibre equipment, giving Speed the best opportunity to learn the ropes before looking to progress up the ladder.

"I come from a completely different world of racing, so there's no doubt it's going to be a challenge learning how these cars handle," Speed said, "But I'm ready to get out there and see what I've got!"
