Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix looks set to start behind the pace car after persistent rain continued to plague the Fuji Speedway circuit.

The conditions have already forced the cancellation of Saturday's free practice session, and looked set to threaten qualifying, when low cloud prevented the medical helicopters from getting airborne, but race day's problem is the rain. With standing water covering much of the remodelled track, spray is limiting visibility, with drivers unsure as to whether the race should start at all.

The race stewards are currently debating the situation, but the grid has formed up as planned.
