He may not quite be a nailed-on champion yet, as Formula One settles in for another court hearing, but that should be no reason not to join Kimi Raikkonen in celebrating his first world championship title.

The Finn did things the hard way, overcoming a 20+ point deficit to deprive warring McLaren team-mates Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso with two victories in the final two races of a maelstrom season. Even going into the final round, he was third in the standings and seven points adrift of Hamilton, but found that things fell his way on raceday, with Hamilton running into mechanical problems and Alonso unable to deprive Felipe Massa of the second place that would have made him champion.

So, while McLaren appeals the stewards' decision not to punish Williams and BMW Sauber for running 'cool fuel' - a reversal of which would allow Hamilton to gain the points he needs to overhaul Raikkonen - let us celebrate with the Iceman.
