GP2 race winner Karun Chandhok is to join Red Bull Racing for the Formula 1 group test in Barcelona next week.

The Indian racer, who took his maiden GP2 win at Spa earlier this season, will take the place of regular test driver Sebastien Buemi who is unable to take part in the session due to his commitments in Macau for the regular end of season Formula 3 event.

It will mark the first time in F1 machinery for the 23-year-old, who finished his maiden GP2 campaign in 15th place having stepped into series on the back of a title winning season in the Asian Formula Renault V6 championship.

"This really is a dream come true for me," he said. "Ever since I was four years old I've dreamed of being behind the wheel of a Formula One car and this is a day that not just myself, but my family and everyone who has supported me over the years, has thought about for a long time.

"I really have to thank everyone involved at Red Bull Racing for this opportunity; I'm really looking forward to it."

Team principal Christian Horner, who has been able to keep a close eye on Chandhok thanks to his own involvement in GP2, said he was pleased to give the Indian driver his first taste of F1 machinery - adding that it was reward for his career to date.

"Karun has been supported by Red Bull for a couple of years now and his progress in GP2 this year has been clearly evident, culminating in a win at Spa," he said. "Barcelona presents a good opportunity to put Karun in one of the cars for his first F1 drive."
