BMW Sauber team chief Mario Theissen has admitted that his outfit is focused on securing a maiden victory heading into the new Formula 1 season.

The team finished second to Ferrari in the constuctors championship last season - albeit only after the exclusion of McLaren following the F1 spying saga - with Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica both impressing at the wheel of the F1.07.

Indeed the team was one of the success stories of the campaign as it almost it trebled its points haul from the 2006 season, scoring 101 points as opposed to the 36 picked up during its first season in F1 after taking over the Sauber team at the end of 2004.

Heidfeld scored points in all but three of the races, including podium finishes in Canada and Hungary, while Kubica celebrated his first full season in Formula 1 with eleven points finishes - results Theissen said his team was eager to build on when the season kicks off in Australia.

"For 2008 we have set ourselves the target of closing the gap to the leading teams," he said. "In addition we intend scoring our first Grand Prix victory."
