Tester Pedro de la Rosa had the honour of giving the new McLaren-Mercedes MP4-23 its first run out on Wednesday morning, when he took to the track at Jerez in Spain.

Heikki Kovalainen meanwhile is expected to make his on-track debut later on today in a second MP4-23.

Lewis Hamilton will take over from de la Rosa on Thursday, with the team concluding its three-day 'closed test' on Friday.

The Woking-based outfit will then resume work at Jerez next week, running from Monday January 14 to Wednesday January 16, when a number of their rivals will also be on track.

McLaren will then switch to running at Valencia the following week, before then heading to Barcelona in early February and back to Jerez for two tests from February 12-14 and February 25-27.

The MP4-23 was officially unveiled two days ago at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart.
