The BMW Sauber F1 team has announced that Cadence Design Systems, 'a leader in the development of innovative electronic designs', has signed up as a new official equipment supplier to the Swiss-based outfit.

Alongside 'classical sponsoring', the agreement covers an 'in-depth technical co-operation' and will also see Cadence become the new official partner of the Formula BMW junior category of motor racing.

"Like us, our partners work to high technological and innovative standards," said BMW Sauber team boss, Mario Theissen.

"That is a key element in achieving success in the high-tech world of Formula One and also a major factor in the development of the series-produced BMW cars of the future."

Cadence has its headquarters in the US state of California and in 2006 the company reported a turnover of 1.5 billion US dollars.

Customers use Cadence software and hardware, methodologies, and services to design and verify advanced semiconductors and electronic systems used in consumer electronics, networking and telecommunications equipment, computers and automotive systems.
