Kevin Magnussen does not believe the Haas Formula 1 team had the pace for points in Sunday's Italian Grand Prix despite only narrowly missing out on a top-10 finish at Monza.

Magnussen was lifted to ninth place on the grid after a series of penalties for cars further up the order, and kept Haas in the fight for points until the very end, being passed by a charging Max Verstappen with nine laps to go.

Magnussen was unhappy about the move Verstappen pulled on him at the second chicane, but admitted after the race that points were never really on the cards for Haas at Monza.

"Stuff happened in the race today, but it didn’t affect me because both Red Bulls got in front anyway. We were just not quick enough this weekend," Magnussen said.

"P11 is probably the best result we could’ve scored. It’s still annoying when you’re running in the points the whole race and then you get done at the end.

"Max was a lot faster than me. I didn’t have a great chance of holding onto that point.

"Nonetheless, there’s no reason not to try. We tried hard the whole race."
