Force India Formula 1 driver Esteban Ocon is hoping to have recovered from an illness that made for a tough United States Grand Prix qualifying session on Saturday in Austin, having struggled with a headache and stomach issues.

Ocon qualified as the top midfielder at the Circuit of The Americas, taking P7 for Force India behind the Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari drivers, and will start sixth on Sunday after Max Verstappen dropped back due to a grid penalty.

Ocon was pleased with the result as Force India once again ran as the fourth-fastest team, and revealed after the session he had been struggling with illness through Saturday.

"I’m happy with the result today. The team has done a fantastic job once again and we have been strong in every session, and we have a great chance to pick up a big bunch of points tomorrow," Ocon said after qualifying.

"It was not an easy qualifying session for me because I did not feel well. I had a very bad headache and problems with my stomach. So I am glad to have made it through the session with a strong result.

"I now need to get some rest and try to recover to be ready for the race.”
