Kevin Magnussen has been disqualified from the United States Grand Prix after it was found that the Haas Formula 1 driver exceeded the permitted fuel limit for the race.

Magnussen had been classified in ninth place at the American squad’s home race in Austin on Sunday after recovering from 12th on the grid, only for the Dane to be excluded for consuming more than 105kg of fuel.

He joins Force India’s Esteban Ocon in becoming the second driver to be disqualified from the race, with the Frenchman losing his result due to exceeding the fuel flow limit.

Sergio Perez has subsequently been promoted to eighth, while Brendon Hartley picks up his best result in F1 in ninth and Sauber's Marcus Ericsson takes the final point on offer in 10th.

It marks the second time this season that a Haas driver has been excluded from a race, after Romain Grosjean was thrown out of September's Italian Grand Prix for running an illegal floor. The disqualification represents a blow to the US squad in its battle with Renault over fourth place in the constructors' standings, with Haas falling 22 points behind.

Haas has the right to appeal the disqualification.
