Marcus Ericsson will return to Formula 1 action as he completes 2020 Pirelli tyre testing with Alfa Romeo following the Austrian Grand Prix.

Alfa Romeo has recalled its brand ambassador and third driver to take part in Pirelli’s latest tyre test evaluating next year’s compounds, which takes place at Spielberg next week.

Ericsson will drive Alfa Romeo’s C38 on Tuesday, before handing over test duties to current driver Antonio Giovinazzi for the final day of running on Wednesday.

The Swede lost his seat at the former Sauber squad at the end of last season, following four seasons at the Swiss outfit between 2015 and 2018, and has since made the switch to IndyCar with Schmidt Peterson Motorsports.
