Lewis Hamilton is at risk of a grid penalty for Sunday's Austrian Grand Prix after the stewards confirmed they would investigate an incident with Kimi Raikkonen during the opening stage of qualifying at the Red Bull Ring.

Formula 1 drivers' championship leader Hamilton went off-track at Turn 3 during Q1 in a bid to try and get out of Raikkonen's way, but still appearing to impede the Alfa Romeo driver.

Raikkonen made a gesture at Hamilton from his cockpit before reporting to his team that the Mercedes driver "completely blocked me", with the incident being noted by race control.

The stewards confirmed shortly before the start of Q2 that they would be investigating the incident after qualifying, with both Hamilton and Raikkonen set to be summoned.

Should the stewards deem that Hamilton blocked Raikkonen, he would be set for a three-place grid penalty, similar to that given recently to Carlos Sainz for impeding Alexander Albon during qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix earlier this month.
