Formula 2 championship leader Nyck de Vries continued his recent good form by charging to pole position for Saturday's Feature Race, edging Anthoine Hubert in qualifying.

After three wins in the last five races put him into a 12-point lead at the top of the standings, de Vries picked up another four bonus points by taking pole for ART Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring with a fastest time of 1m14.143s.

The lap saw de Vries edge out F2 rookie Hubert, who took second for BWT Arden, with Guanyu Zhou finishing in third place.

Less than two-tenths of a second separated Hubert in second and Mick Schumacher in seventh, with Zhou, Nobuharu Matsushita, Luca Ghiotto and Nicholas Latifi taking the positions inbetween.

Red Bull junior Pato O'Ward will start his first F2 race from 17th on the grid, qualifying two-tenths of a second off MP Motorsport teammate Jordan King.
