Nyck de Vries extended his lead at the top of the Formula 2 drivers' championship after topping qualifying at the Hungaroring on Friday evening, beating Luca Ghiotto in wet conditions.

Rain throughout the afternoon forced the field out on wet tyres for qualifying, with de Vries managing to make the best of the conditions to pick up his third pole of the season, as well as four bonus points to extend his advantage to 35 points in the drivers' standings.

A best lap of 1m49.809s gave ART Grand Prix driver de Vries pole by two-tenths of a second from Ghiotto, with primary title rival Nicholas Latifi taking third on the grid.

Mick Schumacher managed to qualify fourth for Prema Racing, nine-tenths of a second back from the pole time.
