Juan Manuel Correa is in a stable condition in hospital having undergone surgery following a serious incident during a Formula 2 race at Spa-Francorchamps.

Supporting the Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix, the opening F2 event of the weekend was abandoned following a huge multi-car crash on the second lap of the feature race involving Correa and Anthoine Hubert.

Correa struck Hubert's car at high-speed following a separate incident for the Frenchman with the tyre barriers at the exit of Raidillon. Correa's car was launched into the air and landed upside down.

Hubert succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the accident.

Correa suffered fractures to both of his legs as well as a minor spinal injury and is currently resting in intensive care following surgery after being transfered to CHU Liege by helicopter.

F2 has cancelled the scheduled sprint race on Sunday out of respect for Hubert.
