Renault Formula 1 junior Jack Aitken battled through to claim his third FIA Formula 2 win in Sunday's Sprint Race at Silverstone, celebrating his home race weekend in style.

Aitken started fourth on the grid and managed to pass pole-sitter Callum Ilott on the run to Turn 1 before going wheel-to-wheel with championship leader Nyck de Vries for a number of laps when battling for second place.

After getting the jump on de Vries, Aitken set off in pursuit of leader Louis Deletraz before slipping down the inside at Brooklands with four laps to go, moving into a lead that he would not relinquish as he secured the win for Campos Racing.

The result lifts Aitken to fifth in the drivers' championship, which continues to be headed by de Vries. The Dutchman's lead stands at 31 points over Williams youngster Nicholas Latifi.

Mick Schumacher finished the race sixth after winning a late battle with Guanyu Zhou and Nobuharu Matsushita.
