Renault junior Jack Aitken scored his third victory of the FIA Formula 2 season in Sunday's Sprint Race at Monza after fending off Jordan King and Callum Ilott in the closing stages of the race.

Aitken led the field away from reverse grid pole before entering a wheel-to-wheel fight with King early on, with the pair going side-by-side into the Roggia Chicane on multiple occasions. Aitken was forced to take to the escape road at one point, but managed to retain his advantage.

Ferrari junior Ilott grabbed second place from King before setting his sights on Aitken in front, lining up a move into Turn 1 on the final lap, only to lock up and spin at the first corner. Ilott was left with a puncture that meant he dropped out of the points.

This allowed Aitken to cross the line two seconds clear of King, the latter feeling aggrieved with how the race victor had moved under braking during the race.

Nyck de Vries extended his championship lead by finishing third, gaining the final podium spot after Nobuharu Matsushita received a five-second time penalty.
