P1 Motorsport's Ernesto Viso was crowned the 2003 British Formula 3 Scholarship champion Sunday at Brands Hatch, after a thrilling championship finale around the 2.6-mile Grand Prix Circuit.

Having translated his first pole position of the weekend into a dominant win in the first race, Viso took a 7.5 point advantage into the second title decider.

Although an incident with main rival Steven Kane resulted in a non-finish for both drivers, Viso had done enough - and duly took overall series honours.

"What can I say?! It's a shame we couldn't win the second race as well, but that's the way it goes," said Viso, "I am just so thrilled to be Champion - and so pleased for the P1 Motorsport team and in particular team boss Roly Vincini, because it's been a tough year and everyone has played their part in my success."
