Max Gunther put a disappointing first European Formula 3 race behind him to secure a second win of the season from pole position at the Hungaroring, in turn taking the championship lead.

The German finished down in fifth position in race one after fluffing his start from pole position, but made no mistake in the second race to hold his lead into the first corner and comfortably control the pace thereafter.

His second win of the year, the Prema Powerteam driver led home his team-mate and race one winner Ralf Aron to move into the lead of the standings, ahead of Nick Cassidy - who finished outside the points after a turn one incident - and eighth place Lance Stroll.

Behind Aron, Ferrari Academy driver Guanyu Zhou notched up his second podium of the year with a strong run to third place, passing George Russell for the position, the Briton nonetheless enjoying a more productive afternoon after his race one struggles.

Red Bull junior Sergio Camara completed the top five, ahead of Carlin's Alessio Lorandi, Mikkel Jensen, Stroll, Callum Illot and Ben Barnicoat.
