Geroge Russell has claimed his first win of the year after holding his nerve fending off attacks in two safety car restarts in a wet-to-dry race two at Pau.

The British driver grabbed the holeshot from pole position and looked to have built a comfortable advantage out front until Pedro Piquet crashed into the barriers on lap 13, prompting the first safety car period.

After producing the ideal restart the Hitech GP driver's progress was halted two laps later when Harrison Newey tipped his Van Amersfoort Racing car into the Armco barriers which forced a second safety car outing.

With the advantage of the tight street track Russell maintained his lead at the restart to claim his second career Euro F3 win and reignite his season with his first rostrum since the season opener at Paul Ricard.

Unable to get past Russell, Sergio Sette Camara settled for second place with Callum Ilott completed the rostrum trio. Ferrari prot?g? Lance Stroll narrowly missed out in fourth with race one winner Ben Barnicoat in completing the top five.

Euro F3 rookie Ralf Aron claimed a solid sixth place ahead of Anthoine Hubert and Mikkel Jensen as Joel Eriksson and Arjun Maini rounded out the points-paying positions.
