Lance Stroll has dominated to a second straight win at the Red Bull Ring to extend his points advantage in the European Formula 3 championship ahead of second place finisher Callum Ilott.

While the Prema Powerteam driver enjoyed a flawless lights-to-flag drive, including a perfect start and managing a safety car period, it was mayhem behind the top two as Ilott maintained his runner-up spot after dropping off from Stroll in the final few laps.

After a series of warnings, drive through penalties and time penalties for a number of cars exceeding track limits Max Gunther claimed the final rostrum spot, and with it third in the championship, after George Russell was forced to retire with damage in an opening lap smash with David Beckmann.

Euro F3 rookie Ben Barnicoat impressed with fourth place ahead of a charging Sergio Sette Camara and Joel Eriksson. Ferrari academy driver Guanyu Zhou nabbed seventh as Niko Kari, Ralf Aron and Nick Cassidy completed the points-paying positions after the post-race penalties were applied.

With Stroll grabbing the holeshot in a repeat of race two Beckmann was the biggest loser in the lap one clash at turn three when he was hit and spun by George Russell, with the British driver forced to pit with damage.

Three laps later Mikkel Jensen and Alessio Lorandi endured an incident similar to Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton last weekend in Spain.

The Italian driver defended his inside line from Jensen and blocked the Mucke driver's attempted pass which forced the pair into a collision which saw Jensen punted off into the gravel. The clash saw Lorandi handed a drive-through penalty after the safety car restart for the incident and duly went to the back of the pack.

With a number of drivers given warnings and drive through penalties for exceeding track limits at Spielberg the chasing pack quickly dropped off the back of the front two Stroll and Ilott.

The Williams F1 development driver controlled the pace from the front to take a second dominant race victory of the weekend to stamp his authority on the Euro F3 championship.
