Lance Stroll has produced a masterful performance around the street circuit of Norisring to avoid several clashes lower down to order to take victory and with it authority on the European Formula 3 championship battle.

After Callum Ilott took out leader Joel Erikkson at the hairpin Stroll stormed ahead at the midway point, having been running second at the time and was fortunate to miss the incident, and maintained his position with a comfortable win over Niko Kari and Nick Cassidy.

Ilott made an incredible start to the race craving up to third from 12th on the starting grid but his good work was all undone when challenging for the lead at the hairpin when he locked up and wiped out leader Eriksson.

Stroll, who had been sitting second at the time of the incident, was lucky to watch the clash occur just ahead of him and duly swept into the lead as the safety car was called out.

With the pack bunched up at the restart Sergio Sette Camara made an overly-ambitious move up the inside of Ferrari academy driver Guanyu Zhou. The Chinese driver held his racing line and clipped into the front left of Sette Camara's car which ultimately eliminated both drivers.

The second safety car set-up a grandstand and frantic finish for the points positions at the Norisring. But for championship leader Stroll it was a measured performance to the chequered flag to take victory and a commanding authority over the European Formula 3 championship.

With the shaken up order Kari and Cassidy completed the rostrum finishers ahead of George Russell, Ralf Aron and top rookie Ben Barnicoat. Mikkel Jensen grabbed seventh ahead of Anthoine Hubert as Pedro Piquet and David Beckmann rounded out the point-paying positions.
