Anthoine Hubert has notched up a first FIA European Formula 3 race victory in his rookie campaign after fending off three separate restarts in a dramatic race two at the Norisring.

The Van Amersfoort Racing had gained pole position after Callum Ilott's reprimand from qualifying and duly delivered a maiden win in the series having fended off championship leader Lance Stroll on the opening lap plus three restarts.

After Ryan Tveter and Ben Barnicoat collided at the Scholler Esses the first safety car period was required which bunched the pack up and on the restart Red Bull juniors Niko Kari and Sergio Sette Camara smashed into one another sparking the second safety car.

The drama was completed with five minutes to go when Carlin's William Buller spun at turn one and collected Harrison Newey, leaving the pair stricken on the track, which required safely removing and therefore the third safety car period.

Despite the havoc behind him Hubert held his nerve to fend off Stroll and claim his maiden Euro F3 win as Maximillian Gunther completed the rostrum finishers ahead of Prema Powerteam's Nick Cassidy who produced an impressive charge from 19th on the grid.

Joel Eriksson narrowly missed out in fifth ahead of Guanyu Zhou, Callum Ilott, Mikkel Jensen as George Russell and Ralf Aron completed the points-paying positions with just 13 classified finishers in total.
