Lance Stroll has taken his fourth victory in five FIA European Formula 3 races to grab a stranglehold on the drivers' championship at the halfway stage of the season.

Stroll maintained his pole position to take a comfortable victory as once again the Euro F3 grid caused havoc lower down the order with a safety car period and a red flag stoppage.

After George Russell and Joel Eriksson collided at turn one the safety car duly bunching up the pack and on the tight and twisty Norisring circuit drivers took overly ambitious risks on the final race of the weekend.

It turned into a nightmare race three for Mucke Motorsport who saw Mikkel Jensen and David Beckmann run into one another battling for position inside the points.

The collision forced a red flag suspension of the race to enable recovery vehicles to safely withdraw the stricken cars.

After a brief 15-minute pause racing resumed behind the safety car again with Stroll controlling the perfect getaway to seal victory ahead of race two winner Anthoine Hubert with Red Bull-backed Sergio Sette Camara completing the rostrum finishers.

Ferrari academy driver Guanyu Zhou was able to steer clear of trouble to take fourth ahead of Maxmillian Gunther as Nick Cassidy once again completed a back of the grid charge to jump to sixth.

Callum Ilott, Alessio Lorandi Ben Barnicoat and Ralf Aron rounded out the points-paying positions while up ahead Stroll claimed a fifth win of the season to take a 86-point advantage over nearest challenger Gunther.
