Maximilian Gunther has sliced away at his Prema Powerteam team-mate's European Formula 3 championship lead with a lights-to-flag victory at Zandvoort as the title leaders retires having started from the back row.

After Stroll was forced into his second straight back row start after seeing qualifying times deleted for exceeding track limits, the Williams F1 development driver once again failed to carve up the field to provide any damage limitation.

This allowed his nearest title challenger Gunther to maximise his advantage with victory which sees the points deficit cut to 56 points with four rounds (12 races) remaining.

After blasting off the line to grab the holeshot Gunther enjoyed a flawless drive to bring home Prema's third consecutive one-two finish with race two winner Nick Cassidy in second.

David Beckmann grabbed his career best result in Euro F3 with an impressive drive through the field to take the final podium spot ahead of Alessio Lorandi and George Russell.

Callum Ilott struggled to find a way past Russell and was forced to settle for sixth ahead of Joel Eriksson and Ralf Aron as Ben Barnicoat and Anthoine Hubert completed the point-paying positions.
