Maximilian Gunther has denied Lance Stroll a perfect race weekend by taking victory in race three at the Nurburgring as the FIA European Championship leader holds second place to keep a firm grip on the title race.

The German driver produced a flawless performance from pole position to the chequered flag having fended off early attacks from Stroll. With Gunther takinghis fourth win of the year and Stroll in second the Williams F1 development driver sees his points lead trimmed back to 60 points with two rounds remaining.

Red Bull junior Niko Kari bridged the gap to Stroll in the closing laps but couldn't apply enough pressure so had to settle for third, comfortably ahead of Callum Ilott as Nick Cassidy completed the top five finishers.

Joel Eriksson grabbed sixth place after a frantic late race battle with George Russell as Sergio Sette Camara scrambled home in eighth with Anthoine Hubert and Ben Barnicoat rounding out the points-paying positions.
