Nicolas Prost says he wasn't aware he had won the Miami ePrix, admitting he couldn't see the chequered flag on the final lap.

The French driver took control of the drivers' standings after overtaking championship leader Lucas di Grassi thanks to his first victory in Formula E.

The e.dams Renault driver was able to pass Daniel Abt in the closing stages after his Audi Sport ABT was losing power, but Prost had to fight off a late charge from Andretti's Scott Speed for victory. The American eventually finished second on his debut Formula E race, while Abt got to the flag in third.

"I didn't know that I had won because I couldn't see the chequered flag and I was pushing like crazy," Prost said. "It was a great race, I tried a different strategy as I felt quite fast but it wasn't easy to overtake. It was actually quite difficult to make it work as I was tight on energy and had to lift on my in-lap.

"Everything looked under control and I was trying to close the gap to Daniel [Abt] and then suddenly I saw Scott and thought 'wow this guy is coming really fast' I overtook Daniel as he was saving energy and it was really tricky to remain focussed and concentrate until the chequered flag."

Prost takes a seven-point lead over di Grassi to round six of the inaugural Formula E championship, which is scheduled next month at Long Beach, California.

"I need to take every race one by one and you need to be very careful in this championship," Prost said. "We race around street circuits so mistakes are just around the corner and can happen very easily. Next race I will take the same approach and try to pick up as many points as possible."
