Sam Bird has described his season-ending victory at the London ePrix as 'incredible' as he brought his 2014/15 FIA Formula E campaign to a conclusion in style.

The Virgin Racing driver started the race from fourth on the grid, but after climbing to third through the pit-stops, made a pass on Loic Duval for second before setting his sights on the lead held from the start by Venturi's Stephane Sarrazin.

Though the Briton was unable to make the pass to cross the line first, Sarrazin was later penalised for using too much energy whilst defending from Bird's attack, ultimately awarding the win to his rivals.

"What an amazing race and end to the season," he said. "We worked hard to maintain our position in the first half of the race and after a great car changeover we jumped to third.

"I managed to conserve the car's energy to enable a lap longer than Stephane before the second stint - that turned the race for me. To end the season on top of the podium in front of a home crowd is incredible."

Nelson Piquet Jr secured the inaugural Formula E championship, after finishing the final race in seventh, while Bird's win - his second of the season - would see him end the year in fifth overall.
