Nick Heidfeld and Bruno Senna will form Mahindra's driver line-up for the second season of the FIA Formula E Championship, it has been announced.

Ahead of the first pre-season test at Donington Park, which will see teams debuting their new self-produced powertrains, Mahindra will bring former F1 driver Heidfeld on board in place of Karun Chandhok, while Senna retains his place in the team.

Heidfeld raced with Venturi during the inaugural season of the all-electric series, picking up a sole podium in Moscow en route to 12th in the standings, while Senna finished tenth overall with a best finish of fourth place in the season-ending London ePrix.

With Mahindra developing its own M2Electro powertrain, Heidfeld is confident he has a car capable of challenging for wins regularly when the second season begins in October.

"I am very excited to join Mahindra Racing for the second Formula E season. Mahindra's high ambitions are aligned with lessons learned from season one and actions taken for year two. When I tested the M2Electro in Spain, I found a determined team that shares my racing passion. My target is to win and I believe our combined experience and skills will ensure we maximise our chances."

"Nick's appointment marks a new milestone in the journey of the Mahindra Racing team," added Mahindra chairman Anand Mahindra.

"This year, we race not only under the Mahindra brand but in a Mahindra developed and powered car. This is a significant moment in what is proving to be a global showcase for electric vehicle technology and I look forward to seeing Nick take the wheel of the M2Electro in Beijing."
