Nathanel Berthon has split with Team Aguri in Formula E with an immediate effect.

The former GP2 competitor joined the team at the start of the 2015-16 Formula E championship and despite enjoying a points-scoring debut at the Bejing ePrix by finishing eighth, the 26-year-old Frenchman has struggled to match the pace of team-mate Felix da Costa.

Berthon says despite splitting from Team Aguri he is certain his career in Formula E isn't over and is targeting a return at his home event, the Paris ePrix, in April.

"I am determined, more than ever, to continue my career in Formula E, and I would like to thank the Team Aguri for giving me a start in the series," Berthon said in a team statement. "I am confident I will race and score in the Paris E-Championship on April 23rd 2016."

Team principal Mark Preston has thanked Berthon for his efforts and says his replacement will be announced in the coming weeks with round four of the championship in Buenos Aires less than two weeks away.

"We would like to thank Nathana?l for his dedication to the team and wish him the very best in his future Formula E career," Preston said. "We are carefully considering our options and will announce his replacement in due course."
