The third season of the FIA Formula E Championship will be broadcast live on Channel 5 for UK audiences, taking over from ITV.

The all-electric series was broadcast on ITV/4 for its first two seasons, but will switch to the 'terrestrial' Channel 5 for Season 3, which kicks off in Hong Kong on October 9th.

With each race being shown live, the qualifying sessions will shown on sister channel Spike with Channel 5's social media accounts airing the practice sessions.

"Formula E is a fantastic opportunity for Channel 5 to offer live motorsports to our audience," said the channel's Mark Sharman. "The sport is up and coming, utilising the very top tech and new and engaging ways to incorporate fans into the high octane action."

"We are delighted that Channel 5 will be our new broadcast partner in the UK," added Director of Media at Formula E Ali Russell. "It was very important to us that the championship was on free-to-air TV, and we have been very impressed by the enthusiasm and commitment Channel 5 has demonstrated to the series and I believe this is an excellent arrangement for our many British fans."

Formula E is the first live motorsport acquisition for Channel 5, though it does show highlights of the World Rally Championship.
