Sebastien Buemi has continued his flawless start to the defence of his Formula E world championship crown with a second win of the campaign at Marrakesh, having reeled in Felix Rosenqvist in the closing stages.

The Renault e.Dams driver had to recover from a five-place grid penalty caused by an underweight fire extinguisher in the first African Formula E race.

Having leapfrogged his rivals to go from seventh to second by the car changeovers, Buemi gradually caught Rosenqvist and reserved enough power to use a timely boost five laps from the end to claim the lead.

From then on the Swiss driver was hardly troubled to ease to the chequered flag, while DS Virgin's Sam Bird also got the better of the slowing Rosenqvist to grab second place as the Mahindra Racing driver rounded out the podium places.

Nicolas Prost claimed a second consecutive fourth position ahead of Lucas di Grassi for ABT Schaeffler Audi who loses vital ground in the world championship race to Buemi but did finish comfortably ahead of team-mate Daniel Abt.

Oliver Turvey continued to get the maximum out of his NEXTEV NIO in seventh place ahead of Jean-Eric Vergne as Nick Heidfeld and Jose Maria Lopez completed the points-paying positions.

The 2016-17 Formula E world championship is now set for a three month break ahead of round three in Buenos Aires on the 18th February 2017.
