Felix Rosenqvist has become the latest Formula E winner after taking a controlled victory for Mahindra Racing on Saturday in the opening leg of the Berlin ePrix weekend.

Starting third on the grid at the Berlin Tempelhof circuit, Rosenqvist swept past Jose Maria Lopez off the line and settled into P2 through the early part of the race, trailing Lucas di Grassi.

Rosenqvist managed to get the jump on di Grassi with a slick pass into Turn 1 just before the mandatory car swaps at half-distance, after which point he pulled away before eventually crossing the line two seconds clear of the pack.

"It's finally the day where we won the race!" Rosenqvist said. "It feels like it's been a long time coming even though it's only my first season in Formula E. It's been just around the whole year!

"Today everything just came together. I made a small error in qualifying which put us into P3 on the grid, otherwise I think it was pretty much a perfect day! The cars were fantastic. As a team, we came into this race a lot calmer.

"At this point in the season we're settling down into a rhythm with our procedures and this week we just felt like winners already - I think that made a big difference. It didn't feel strange to be up there on the top step, we've had three consecutive podiums and it's so rewarding for all the guys that have worked so hard.

"Everyone says that, but I see the hours that they put in everyday and so this one goes to them!"

Di Grassi was left to settle for second, but was able to cut title rival Sebastien Buemi's championship lead down to just 22 points after the Swiss driver was excluded for running with tyres below the minimum required pressure. Buemi had originally fought from 14th on the grid to finish fifth.

Nick Heidfeld finished third to give Mahindra a double-podium finish, while Lopez took fourth ahead of Nicolas Prost. Daniel Abt was sixth ahead of Sam Bird and Jean-Eric Vergne, the latter having received a five-second time penalty for an unsafe pit release. Maro Engel and Oliver Turvey rounded out the points.
