Matteo Bobbi has strengthened his lead in the GT2 class of the FIA GT Championship after claiming another podium finish in the latest round of the series at Mugello.

Alongside Jaime Melo in the #58 AF Corse Ferrari 430, the Italian endured a tough race at his home round of the season with a number of technical issues preventing the pair from challenging Emmanuel Collard and Luca Riccitelli in the Ebimotors Porsche for victory.

During the first race stint, a strongly misted up windshield forced Melo to make an unscheduled pit stop while a mishap involving a hydraulic jack also played its part in costing the team valuable time.

However, with three races still to go, Bobbi and Melo have retained the lead of the championship with 59 points, followed by team-mates Mika Salo and Rui Aguas with 51 points.

"Things went fairly well," Bobbi said. "Weather conditions were really bad and the rain forced us to an unscheduled stop due to the front car window that was completely misted up. After the stop, we accumulated too much delay to fight for the victory, but our target was to gain some more points on our direct opponents and we accomplished it!

"A margin of eight points is not yet enough: thirty points remain to be assigned. Anyway, we are at the top of the championship since the first race and this proves that we fully deserve the leadership."
