Should we be taking Ferrari's F1 quit threats seriously?

We've heard it all before, haven't we? Ferrari unhappy with F1, Ferrari threatens to quit, Ferrari keeps racing in F1...

But Sergio Marchionne's recent comments have been particularly scathing, coming at a time when F1 is trying to forge its future direction under new owner Liberty Media.

A possible drop in prize money for Ferrari has been mooted as Liberty looks to redistribute revenue through the grid and create a more level playing field, with Marchionne saying it would be financially beneficial for the Italian manufacturer to stop racing.

But given the mighty marketing value of racing in F1 to Ferrari and its place as the sport's most recognisable brand, will it ever quit? Is F1 imaginable without Ferrari?
