Louis Deletraz will join defending champions Fortec Motorsports for a 2016 Formula 3.5 V8 campaign, the Swiss driver has announced.

His signing signals a move up the single-seater ladder after three years in Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup. The 18-year-old was also Northern European champion this year after a dominant campaign with Josef Kaufmann.

Deletraz, son of Jean-Denis, is not new to F3.5 V8 - then known as Formula Renault 3.5 - after a one-off appearance with Comtec Racing mid-season.

Combining his one round experience with solid performances in post-season testing, the Swiss racer will join the grid full-time when the new look series returns in April.

"I am very proud and happy to join Fortec Motorsports," he said following the announcement. "I could not wish for a better team to step up in Formula 3.5 V8"

Deletraz will replace champion Oliver Rowland at the British outfit next year, taking to the helm of car number one for his first full season in the RPM-endorsed series. It is a move, the new Fortec driver admits, he has eyed for a while.

"I only did five days of testing with the team and it already feels like home," he explained. "I'm very lucky to have such experienced people around me and I can't wait for the season to start."

Fortec Motorsports proved to be a dominant force during the 2015 season, winning a total of nine races with the experienced pairing of Rowland and Malaysian veteran Jazeman Jaafar.

A team mate for Deletraz is yet to be announced but with neither Rowland nor Jaafar returning in 2016, the new team champions will welcome two different recruits next year. Jack Aitken, Gustav Malja and Alex Bosak all tested with the British outfit post-season and are likely contenders for the much-coveted remaining seat.
