Yu Kanamaru has laid down an early marker at the Hungaroring with a final flyer to take top spot from Rene Binder in the opening practice session.

The Japanese driver produced his best time as the chequered flag fell on the first session to go quickest by over a quarter of a second from Binder as the rest of the field got up to speed at the Budapest track.

SMP Racing's Matthieu Vaxiviere narrowly missed out on the top two by just 0.047s but held off Tom Dillmann and Jonny Cecetto Jr.

Louis Deletraz, who claimed victory in the 2016 curtain raiser at Aragon, claimed sixth ahead of Roy Nissany, Force India's F1 development driver Alfonso Celis Jr and Egor Orudzhev - as Aurelien Panis rounded out the top ten.
