Aurelien Panis secured his maiden Formula V8 3.5 win with a race two victory for Arden Motorsport at the opening round of the championship from Motorland, Aragon.

Panis, who qualified in second for Sunday's race, overtook pole-sitter Tom Dillmann on the opening lap and remained untouched throughout to top the podium for the first time since joining the 3.5 litre series back in 2015.

His fellow Frenchman, competing for AVF, was within one second of his rival until lap 12, approximately halfway through the race. However, he was 11 seconds clear of third-placed Rene Binder with the Lotus driver collecting his first podium finish since joining FV8 for his first full season.

Yu Kanamaru was a competitive fourth for new team Teo Martin Motorsport with an eventful race concluding in a fifth placed finish for Louis Deletraz. Contact between the Swiss racer and Matthieu Vaxiviere on the first lap forced them to the back of the grid and the latter into an early race retirement.

Deletraz's race then went from bad to worse when the AVF model of Alfonso Celis Jr touched his front left tyre at turn 16 though neither driver was given a penalty for the minor collision. Capitalising on an early mandatory pit stop, the Renault Sport F1 Academy driver was able to climb back up fifth, just one day after his race one victory at the Spanish circuit.

Johnny Cecotto Jr and Roy Nissany were the first to pit for fresh tyres, ultimately finishing sixth and seventh respectively. Celis Jr favoured worse from his collision with Deletraz for eighth while Pietro Fittpaldi and Matevos Isaakyan completed the top ten.

An extra formation lap was called when the Arden Motorsport challenger of Egor Orudzhev became stranded on track. As a result, the race was shortened by five minutes. Orudzhev attempted a late pit stop strategy, and looked as though he would recover a points finish, until a last minute collision with Isaakyan forced him into a second consective retirement at Aragon.

Formula V8 will return for its round at the Hungaroring with practice taking place on Friday the 22nd April.
