Aurelien Panis has produced a classy victory in race two at the Red Bull Ring in the Formula V8 3.5 series by holding off championship leader Tom Dillmann in the closing stages having leapfrogged Matevos Isaakyan in the pit stop switches.

Isaakyan converted his maiden pole position at the holeshot and led the opening half of the race but pushing on in his first stint before the pit stop he lost time to Panis who undercut the Russian at the changeover to grab the lead.

Dillmann also nipped ahead of the SMP Racing driver and pursued his fellow countryman for the race win but with overtaking opportunities tricky to forge out in Spielberg Panis held on for his first win since the opening round at Aragon.

Despite slipping to third Isaakyan secured his maiden rostrum result and best finish of the year in third place ahead of Louis Deletraz as Egor Orudzhev completed the top five finishers.

Race one winner at the Red Bull Ring Matthieu Vaxiviere could only manage sixth place but eased ahead of Force India F1 development driver Alfonso Celis Jr in the closing stages.

Vitor Baptista enjoyed a relatively lonely race to take eighth place after Yu Kanamaru and Roy Nissany clashed battle for position on lap 19. The incident forced Kanamaru into retirement on the spot while Nissany slipped to the back of the running order. As a result, Beitske Visser and Marco Bonanomi rounded out the points-paying positions.
