He might have lost out on the 2012 GP2 championship, but at least Luiz Razia can take surely huge comfort in claiming victory over his season-long rival Davide Valsecchi in the prestigious Driver of the Year vote!

It did seem to us that Razia had the slightly stronger season overall, right through to almost the very end. There were only two moments that swung the title away from Razia: the first was Valsecchi's sparkling hattrick of wins at Bahrain early in the season which put Razia briefly on the back foot, and the second was Razia's failure to score any points at Monza in the crucial penultimate weekend after clashing with Racing Engineering's Fabio Leimer in the feature race. That left him with too much work to do at Singapore, forcing him to settle for the runners-up spot in the championship.

Outside those two occasions, it was Razia who was the more dominant driver all season, and that quite rightly impressed voters when they were making their decisions. Perhaps a little sympathy went into your selection as well, for surely Razia deserves some commiseration prize for coming so close to the title and missing out by so little.

Whatever the reason, you've made Luiz Razia the 2012 GP2 Driver of the Year. And for what it's worth, we reckon you've made a fine choice!

Check back later in the week for the details of the averages each driver scored, and what happened to those drivers outside the top ten.
