Alex Lynn will get his first taste of GP2 machinery this week when he takes part in the traditional post-season tests with Carlin and ART.

The British driver wrapped up the GP3 Series title in unusual circumstances at the Yas Marina Circuit after Dean Stoneman failure to secure pole position saw him miss out on the points he needed to keep his championship dreams alive.

It meant Lynn was crowned before race day in Abu Dhabi, though he would go on to contribute to Carlin securing the teams' trophy as well.

As a reward for his efforts, Red Bull Junior Lynn will get a run out in Carlin's GP2 car, while he has also accepted an invite from ART Grand Prix to drive its machine later this week.

Indeed, though Lynn has been linked with a move straight into F1 for 2015 with Scuderia Toro Rosso, following in the footsteps of 2013 GP3 title winner Daniil Kvyat, he does acknowledge that GP2 would be the next step.

"There'll be no celebrating at home just yet, because I'm staying in Abu Dhabi for some GP2 testing this week, one day with Carlin and one with ART," he said, writing in his personal blog. "That's the next step up the ladder, so needless to say I'm really looking forward to it."

Following his title win, Lynn said he felt 'ready' to make the step into F1 and is believed to be up against Jean-Eric Vergne and FR3.5 champion Carlos Sainz Jr for the position.
