Matt Parry and Seb Morris have both lost their points-paying finishes at Monza in Saturday's GP3 race after post-race scrutineering technical checks found their cars to be below the minimum required weight.

Parry had finished fourth after a strong race that saw the Koiranen GP driver running in the top two for much of the 22-lap race at the 3.6-mile (5.793km) 11-turn Autodromo Nazionale Monza, although he faded in the closing laps and was eventually deprived of a podium place by the two hard-charging Ardens of Emil Bernstorff and Kevin Ceccon.

Morris had similarly spent much of the race in the points, circulating in seventh place until lap 16 when his attempt to get around Parry's team mate Jimmy Eriksson for sixth made him vulnerable to a move from Jenzer Motorsport's Math?o Tuscher. Morris ran into the back of Tuscher after being overtaken in the Roggia chicane, and damage to his front wing allowed Campos Racing's ?lex Palou and his own Status Grand Prix team mate Alex Fontana to pass him before the chequered flag.

However, as a result of the post-race technical checks on all cars in parc ferm?, Parry will now lose his fourth position which now goes to ART's Marvin Kirchh?fer. Eriksson, Tuscher, Palou and Fontana also move up one place apiece, with the effect that Fontana now inherits pole position for Sunday morning's shorter race 2 under reverse grid rules. Palou will start alongside Fontana on the front row.

Morris' exclusion means that Jenzer Motorsports' Ralph Boschung moves into the points in ninth place having started on the back row of the grid following a technical problem that prevented him from taking part in qualifying earlier in the day.

Also promoted into a points-paying position following the exclusions was Carlin's Mitch Gilbert who is now classified as finishing in tenth position.

The exclusions mean that Parry and Morris will now start tomorrow's race from the back of the grid in 20th and 21st place respectively.

Meanwhile in GP2, Alex Lynn was handed a penalty for causing an accident with Rapax's Sergey Sirotkin midway through the Saturday afternoon feature race. The impact almost sent Lynn cartwheeling, his DAMS car tipping over 45 degrees on its right hand side before righting itself after the collision at Rettifilo on lap 11.

The race stewards deemed that Lynn should take a five-place grid drop. Since the Briton retired after the incident and was due to start near the back of the grid in any case, and could not serve the five place penalty in full, he will have to start Sunday's sprint race from the pit lane instead.

He will be joined there by his team mate Pierre Gasly after it was found that the DAMS team had removed the tyre valves on the #1 car after the Frenchman had retired in the pit lane, even though the tyres were considered as being in parc ferme at that stage of the event.
