Adam Carroll will be well placed to challenge for victory in the fourth round of the GP2 Series after he qualified in a season-best third position for Racing Engineering.

Competing on home ground for his team, the Northern Irishman actually managed the fifth fastest time but benefited from Lewis Hamilton and Gimmi Bruni's demotion for their yellow flag infringement to move onto the second row of the grid

Carroll was delighted to amongst the front runners and hoped that it would lead to a similar race result. "Qualifying was really good today, and it was a little step further up from last weekend. The changes we made on the car were positive, and I think it was the right way to go.

"It's still hard to know how it's going to go in the race; obviously you're always slower in the race because the tyres aren't new and you're carrying more fuel, but it's going to be interesting because I don't really know what to expect!"
