Having missed out on a chance to graduate to the GP2 Series, Ben Hanley will instead make another attempt at the World Series by Renault title after being confirmed by Prema Powerteam for 2007.

A surprise front runner in his first season in the championship with Cram Competition, Hanley belied his lack of experience in the 3.5-litre V6 machine to record several strong results, namely his win at Misano, even if that was only granted after appeal in January.

Nonetheless, the Brit secured eighth in the standings to warrant a possible move to the GP2 Series and duly proved quick in testing for Racing Engineering to suggest a prelude to a potential drive.

However, with opportunities in GP2 now fading, Hanley will instead return to World Series with Prema, who impressed in their first season in the championship by taking one win and four podiums courtesy of Christian Montanari and Greg Franchi.

Joining Xavier Maassen in the team, Hanley firmly believes that, with a strong first year under his belt, he can now challenge for the title this season with the Italian squad.

"This year my realistic aim is to consistently be in the top 4 and to go on and win the championship," he said. "Obviously my self-belief leads me to think I will win all the races as I have always put myself under the most possible pressure I can; this way I can't be under anymore pressure and always perform a the same level.

"Prema Powerteam are in their second year in World Series, but I believe with the structure and professionalism that they have, mixed with my experience, that we can go on this year to challenge for the championship."

Hanley also comes to Prema having been confirmed as a 'Renault Development Driver' for the second successive year alongside Lucas di Grassi, Romain Grosjean and Dani Clos, a status that makes the team proud to have won the services of Hanley.

"To have a young and fast driver like Ben in the team, makes us proud and confident of good results," said team principal Angelo Rosin. "We are also delighted that Renault has entrusted Prema to run one of its drivers in this prestigious category. We will try to do everything to give Ben the right tools to reap the rewards that he deserves."
