Despite admitting his chances of a drive in 2007 looked slim, Alvaro Parente will return to the World Series by Renault grid this season after agreeing a last-minute deal with Tech 1 Racing.

Although the 2005 British Formula Three Champion was one of the stars of his rookie campaign in 2006 with Victory Engineering, securing two wins on the way to fifth in the standings, the Portuguese driver has struggled with funds recently, something that scuppered a move to GP2 and threatened to leave him on the sidelines overall.

Nonetheless, Tech 1 Racing, who too are embarking on a second season in the World Series, have stepped up to offer their services to Parente, the driver joining them for the first two-day test of the pre-season at Barcelona, immediately impressing his new employers with the fifth best time.

Elsewhere, the remainder of the seats in World Series appear to have been filled with Carlos Iaconelli finding a berth at Pons Racing having only last week been let go of his contract from Interwetten Racing.

Meanwhile, Christian Montanari is appearing for GD Racing this week, although it is not confirmed whether the San Marino driver will join Pasquale di Sabatino in the team this season.
