As expected, Super Nova has confirmed that Alvaro Parente will partner Christian Bakkerud in its driver line-up for the 2008 GP2 season.

After confirmation yesterday [Wednesday] that Bakkerud would remain with the team following the conclusion of the current GP2 Asia campaign, rumours suggested that Parente was the favourite to the partner the Dane, with the Portuguese driver having enjoyed a title-winning season in the World Series by Renault last year.

Now, having previously struggled to put together the budget needed to secure his place on the grid, Parente will get the chance to show off his talent to the watching F1 teams in a move he was understandably pleased with.

"I'm very, very happy to have signed with the Super Nova team," he said. "They have a great history and have been a top team from the start of GP2. It is a great chance for me and I am focused and concentrating on doing the best job I can. I am looking forward to getting started with testing."

Team boss David Sears was quick to welcome Parente into the team, saying he was a driver he had long been keeping an eye on.

"Alvaro Parente has been a driver we have watched for the past few seasons after winning the British Formula 3," he said. "The Renault Series proved that he is indeed capable of running at the front in international racing. In fact the pair [Parente and Bakkerud] have already been team mates in the British Formula 3 Championship.

"The entire team are all motivated to get started with the coming season with the new car."
