DAMS' double points finish in the GP2 Series sprint race at Spa-Francorchamps was rubbed out when it was shown that Kamui Kobayashi's last gasp sixth place had come about because of a short-cut.

Davide Valsecchi, who had left his hospital bed to race on Sunday morning, appeared odds on to claim a remarkable sixth place having passed the Japanese driver at La Source a couple of laps from home, but appeared seventh when the cars crossed the line.

Kobayashi's joy at adding another point to his, and DAMS', tally was short-lived, however, after observers confirmed that he had passed the Durango car by virtue of failing to take the correct line through the final chicane, a move most likely provoked by the decreasing grip in the final sector as rain returned to the Ardennes.

His penalty was the addition of 25 seconds to his race time, enough to demote him to 14th and last of the classified finishers.

"I got back up to sixth place and thought I scored a point until I was called to see the stewards," Kobayashi commented, "I accept their decision but, overall, I'm disappointed with my weekend. I hope I'll be able to show our potential at Monza and finish the championship with a flourish."
